Brasicas

In order to protect the crops from pidgeons, aphids and butterflies I converted a chicken cage into a brasica cage by covering it with Environmesh.  As the mesh is uv resistant and has an estimated life of 10 years I felt it was worth the effort and expense to protect these vulnerable crops.

Preparation

I constructed a path in order to give easy access to both sides. Each side is covered with well rotted manure except for one area 1m x 1m which is set aside for the carrots. In this area only compost is applied.

Crops

Within the cage I grow carrots, kale, sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage and purple broccoli.

Please click on each variety for photos and comments on the growing process. This section is under construction but will be completed by the end of the 2020 season.
